Greetings,
Welcome back! It’s been a while since you received a new edition of the AMS newsletter. For months, AMS Controls has been challenged with growth--and its ensuing changes--in every important aspect of our business. A lot’s been happening here since January as we’ve prepared and put everything in place to leap into an exciting future. And it’s time we shared some of the news.
First and foremost, we’re excited to announce the
promotion of Andy Allman to President of
AMS
Controls. Formerly Vice-President of Engineering,
Andy guided the technical aspects of AMS Controls,
leading recent expansion efforts that have been key
to our success while advancing the AMS business
strategy. “Andy has been instrumental in expanding
and organizing the company,” said AMS Controls
founder Rick Allman. “Preparing the company for the
future, he’s demonstrated exceptional leadership.”
“This is an exciting time at AMS. We’re making major
investments in development,
increasing productivity, strengthening product, and
overall stepping up the pace. AMS is maturing as a
company, and we’re putting things in place to
support our big leap to the next level.”
One of the key players in Andy’s vision is new Vice-
President of Development Jared
Ferraro. “Jared is
already making a big difference at AMS, advancing
the quality and efficiency of our internal processes,”
says AMS Controls President Andy Allman. Jared joins
AMS Controls after five years with Pella Window
Company in Pella, Iowa, where he led a Continuous
Improvement effort that included cost reduction,
purchasing, and, capacity-related capital projects,
as well as training and justifications. His primary goal
at AMS Controls is to set up and manage Continuous
Improvement activities. “We have potential to make
a huge impact on the company,” he says. “I came to
AMS Controls because I believe in the product, and
because I knew I could help make it even greater
than it is.”
To pursue that vision and commitment, our engineering group is growing, and we’ve also dedicated a new position to communicating our business messages and technical information to our clients . . . Riding hard on application and product development, new Engineering Manager John Vines promises, “We’re going to boost the standards by implementing state- of-the-art methodologies for application and product development.” John’s 12 years of experience includes software and interface development and database and network design for companies ranging from Anheuser-Busch, Inc. to Symantec. Says AMS Executive Vice-President Marc Allman, “John brings a wide variety of applied technical skills to AMS, along with a new level of management expertise and professionalism. I’m excited to have him on our team.” Having earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Johns Hopkins University, Izzet Pembeci comes to the AMS Controls Engineering team from the Zanvyl- Krieger Mind Brain Institute in Baltimore, where he was responsible for developing real-time multi- threaded data collection programs for psychophysical and neurophysiological tactile experiments, as well as interfacing, controlling, maintaining, and improving tactile stimulators. “I always like tackling algorithmic problems, and theory-related things,” he says-- perfect for the smart algorithms he’s hard at work designing for the graphical programming user interface for the AMS folding machine controller project. Also on the folding machine controller project is David Whitten. With a 15 year career that includes co- development of three different patented projects and a successful stint at Crane National Vendors--where one of his key accomplishments was the hardware and firmware design for a patented guaranteed- product delivery system that currently leads the industry--he is now developing both hardware and embedded software for the AMS Controls Engineering team. And finally, Pat Dorsey joins AMS Controls in the new role of Communications Manager, bringing 15 years of experience as a technical and business communicator, writer, and editor from such organizations as the U.S. Postal Service and Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “One thing that often--okay, almost universally--gets overlooked as a company’s growth starts taking off is communication,” says Pat. “Letting customers know what’s being done can get lost in the actual effort of doing it. My job’s to make sure the word gets out.” In addition to taking charge of updating of AMS’s manuals and documentation, Pat is also the editor of this revived (and soon to be more regular) version of the newsletter--an important channel, we’ve recognized, for maintaining ongoing contact with our clients. If you have feedback or questions on anything from this newsletter to our user manuals, you can reach Pat at pdorsey@amscontrols.com. He looks forward to your comments, and he promises not to refer to himself in the third person outside of this newsletter.
