OPERATION
AND DESCRIPTION
The MP300CL
Series Controller is an electronic length controller that is
part of a Closed Loop control system. There are two basic types of Closed
Loop control system. The Closed Loop Die Accelerator is used on flying
die machines. The Closed Loop Roll Feeder is used on feed-to-stop machines.
Details of each system are stated below.
DIE
ACCELERATOR SYSTEM
The system consists
of an electronic length controller, such as an MP300CL Series
Controller, a material encoder, a servo system, and an accelerator.
The material is driven through a press by a roll former or feed system.
The MP300CL Series Controller measures the material
movement. When the cut or punch point is near the press the MP300CL
Series Controller accelerates the cutoff or punch die via servo
system and accelerator. When the die has matched line speed exactly,
the press is triggered, and the part is punched or cut. Once the die
is clear of the material, the die is returned home and ready for another
target.
DIE
ACCELERATOR TEST
- The MP300CL Series
Controller has a unique test feature that simulates a test
run without wasting any material. The operator specifies the part
length, line speed, and desired tolerance. The MP300CL Series
Controller generates internal encoder signals that mimic
the roll former in action. It then accelerates the die and cycles
the press just like a normal run. In addition, a graphics display
and tolerance screen allow the user to view how the system is performing.

ROLL FEED SYSTEM
The system consists
of an electronic length controller, such as the MP300CL Series
Controller , and a servo feed system. The material encoder
is optional on this system. The material's position and velocity are
controlled by the MP300CL Series Controller via the
servo feed system. The amount of material movement is measured by an
encoder which is coupled to the motor (resolver). The controller is
able to keep track of the exact position of the material, control its
acceleration and velocity, and stop at its pre-programmed punch or cut
length. For heavy material feeds, a second encoder can be added to ride
directly on the material. This encoder is used to verify there is no
slippage.

ACCURATE
Electronic counters depend on constant
line speeds and delays for accuracy. The MP300CL Series Controller
does not. It ensures high performance with accurate positioning. It
provides programmable control of acceleration, run speed, loop gain,
and dead band. Values can be changed on the fly to simplify setup.
