Shear Reaction

Shear Reaction is the amount of time required from when the Shear Output fires for the press to engage the material.

This time value determines the most accurate point to fire the press for a given material velocity. Shear Reaction is especially useful when material is being fed at a varying line speed.

Shear Reaction is necessary on flying die applications because

  • It handles length errors occurring during line speed changes
  • It handles the problems of producing a first piece longer than the subsequent pieces.

Since the shearing function is not instantaneous, the shear must be activated prior to the actual cut point.
