The following is a procedure to install a manual update to Pathfinder (without using the updater tool found in later versions of the software).
This procedure will only work for Pathfinder models PFPC 5000, PFPC 5100, PFPC 6000, PFPC 6100 running versions 2.05.20 or earlier. For assistance with updating from a later version, please contact our Support team.
Note: If possible, use a USB keyboard or USB mouse to perform this procedure. Using a keyboard will simplify deleting and copying multiple files.
Backup All Data
- Apply power to the system to get the Pathfinder PC to power up.
- Once the PC turns on and Pathfinder opens, log in as Administrator.
- Locate a USB flash drive and plug it into one of the three USB ports on the back of the Pathfinder PC
- Enter the Setup and Configuration screen by touching the Tools button.
- Select the Administrator Tools menu on the left side of the screen.
- Select the Backup / Restore / Import sub-menu.
- Select the Backup All Data button to create a Pathfinder backup file. The Save File window will appear and open up the USB flash drive.
Note: Using the on-screen keyboard, you can change the name of the file or leave it as the default, which includes the current date. - Select the OK button to save the file to the flash drive.
- Select OK when the window stating that the backup was successful appears.
Disable Write Filter
- Once Pathfinder opens, log in as Administrator.
- Enter the Setup and Configuration screen by touching the Tools button.
- Select the System Information tab on the left column.
- Select the Write Filter tab on the top row.
Note: Use the arrow buttons to scroll to the right if necessary. - Touch the Disable Write Filtering button.
- The button will grey out and the following message will appear towards the bottom of the screen: The Write Filter will be disabled after you exit Pathfinder and cycle power on the Pathfinder PC.
Cycle Power
- Shut down Pathfinder.
- Restart the Pathfinder PC.
- Once Pathfinder opens, log in as Administrator.
- Shut down the Pathfinder application.
Remove Old Files
- On the desktop, select the Start button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen; the Administrator window will open.
- Select My Computer in the Administrator window.
- Maximize the window.
- Touch the Folders tab at the top of the window.
- The System Folders tree will appear in the left column.
- Open the following folder in the tree: C:\Program Files\AMS Controls.
- Delete all of the files in the following folders; Archive, Excluded and Pathfinder.
Note: To delete files without a keyboard: select Files; select Delete; select Yes when Confirm File Delete window opens. - Delete all of the files in the Utility folder except for the hasp folder.
Copy New Files
- Click on the Removable Disk (D:) in the tree.
- The files in the D: drive will appear.
- Open the 2.XX.XX_PathfinderUpdate.zip file by double-clicking the folder.
- Copy all of the files in the folder.
- Minimize the Pathfinder Update folder.
- Open the following folder in the tree: C:\Program Files\AMS Controls\Pathfinder.
- Paste the Pathfinder Update files in this folder.
- Open the following folder in the tree: C:\Program Files\AMS Controls\Pathfinder.
- Copy the following four files and paste them in the C:\Program Files\AMS Controls\Excluded folder:
- 5225BB.S19
- 5223BB.S19
- XL250BB_RevD.FMF
- XL250BB.FMF
- Open the following folder in the tree: C:\Program Files\AMS Controls\Pathfinder
- Copy the following three files and paste them in the C:\Program Files\AMS Controls\Utility folder:
- AMS.Pathfinder.Utilities.dll
- FBWF_AMS.dll
- PathfinderUpdater.exe
- Close the Explorer window by clicking the X in the top right corner.
- Open the Recycle Bin by double-clicking the icon on the desktop.
- Click on the Empty the Recycle Bin icon in the left column.
- The Confirm Multiple File Delete window will appear.
- Click on the Yes button.
- Close the Recycle Bin folder by clicking the X in the top right corner.
Setup Pathfinder
- Open Pathfinder by double-clicking the Pathfinder icon on the desktop.
- The Select Language window will open.
- Select the language and click the OK button.
- The Change Machine Configuration window will open.
- Select the Machine Type, Machine Options and Installed Black Box Hardware.
- Click the OK button.
- A window will appear stating that “Pathfinder will now shut down. You must restart Pathfinder in order for your changes to take effect”.
- Click the OK button.
Update the Black Box
- Open Pathfinder by double-clicking the Pathfinder icon on the desktop.
- Log into Pathfinder as Administrator.
- The Black Box Update window will appear.
- Click the Update Now button.
- Click the Begin Update button.
- Once the update is complete, the Close button will appear.
- Click the Close button.
Enable Write Filter
- Enter the Setup and Configuration screen by touching the Tools button.
- Select the System Information tab on the left column.
- Select the Write Filter tab on the top row.
Note: Use the arrow buttons to scroll to the right if necessary. - Touch the Enable Write Filtering button.
- The button will grey out and the following message will appear towards the bottom of the screen: The Write Filter will be enabled after you exit Pathfinder and cycle power on the Pathfinder PC.
- Shut down Pathfinder.
Verify Write Filter Is Enabled
- Restart the Pathfinder PC.
- Once Pathfinder opens, log in as Administrator.
- Enter the Setup and Configuration screen by touching the Tools button.
- Select the System Information tab on the left column.
- Select the Write Filter tab on the top row.
Note: Use the arrow buttons to scroll to the right if necessary. - Verify that the write filter is enabled under the status window.
Restore All Data
- Select the Administrator Tools menu on the left side of the screen.
- Select the Backup / Restore / Import sub-menu.
- Select the Restore tab towards the top of the screen.
- Select the Restore All Data button.
- Select the Yes button when the window appears asking Do you wish to continue?
- When the Open File window appears, select the file that you saved in the Backup All Data portion of this procedure.
- Then select OK.
- Select OK when the window stating Pathfinder will now shut down appears.
- Reopen Pathfinder and all of the data will be restored.
This completes the manual update.
