Replacing a Controller / Recovery from a Memory Clear

In the event a XL200 controller must be replaced or have its memory cleared (perhaps after a software upgrade), the Eclipse Production Management System makes this process relatively simple. To recover from a memory clear or hardware replacement, follow these step-by-step instructions:

1.  Collect and record the Eclipse Network Unit ID from the original controller.

If the original controller already had its memory cleared or is no longer available, check in the Eclipse software itself. The Network Unit ID is listed in square brackets [ ] next to the machine name.

2.  Once the Network Unit ID is found, the new controller (or old controller with cleared memory) can be powered up and configured. Before going through the Eclipse configuration, the DIP settings must be configured. Details on setting the DIP switches can be found here.

3.  After setting the DIP switch configuration, the controller can now be configured for the Eclipse network. Depending on the sequence of events, the user will be prompted for the Eclipse settings on power up, or some navigation through the controller menus might be required.

If the user is powering the XL200 controller up and finds the following menu options, continue with step 4. If these menus were by-passed, skip to step 9 for instructions on navigating the menus to enter the Eclipse configuration.

4.  The first menu presented to the user is Language Selection. Select the language desired by the operator and press the OK button:

5.  Depending on the software version of the XL200 Series controller, the user might have the option to configure the controller for an Ethernet connection. If this option does not exist, or if the controller is connected to an RS485 network, skip to step 6. Otherwise, enter the pertinent network information into the controller’s Network Settings menu:

6.  Select Enable PC Communication to access the Eclipse Settings:

7.  Enter the controller’s Network Unit ID and configure the controller for Ethernet connectivity or select the baud rate for a RS485 network, if applicable:

8.  At this point, Eclipse should download parameter and order data to the XL200, assuming Eclipse-COMM is running.

9.  If the previous menus were bypassed, the user will be required to navigate through the controller menus to enter the pertinent Eclipse and Network settings. Begin by navigating to Setup\Controller Settings\Eclipse Settings. Enter the values for Network Unit ID, Ethernet/RS485 selection, and baud rate (if applicable):

10. If this controller is connected a RS485 network, the process is completed. Put the controller into the Status menu, and Eclipse should download parameter and order data to the controller automatically if Eclipse-COMM is running.

If this controller is connected to an Ethernet network, navigate to Setup\Controller Settings\Network Settings and enter the appropriate IP Address information for the local network:
